Hi everyone,
The KSIG co-convenors are pleased to announce an upcoming session on Predatory Journals in Evidence Synthesis, with Amanda Ross-White, from Queen’s University. The webinar will be held on March 2, 2022 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. (EST). There's no cost to attend the webinar but registration is required. For more details and to register, please see the description below.
Abstract: Over the past couple years, the JBI methodologists were increasingly being asked about predatory journals. So we put out some interim guidance (http://doi.org/10.11124/JBIES-21-00138<https://can01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fdoi.org%2F10.11124%2FJBIES-21-00138&data=04%7C01%7Cjessie.cunningham%40ontariohealth.ca%7C0ca8a90f151b42b62d1908d9e7426ca8%7C4ef96c5cd83f466ba478816a5bb4af62%7C0%7C0%7C637795096095209305%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C2000&sdata=KISRT7nSoNShMS9Ey3r7bJBZqGeMqSsTCSCrKNECoeg%3D&reserved=0>) and decided we needed to explore the issue some more. Were systematic reviewers even aware of predatory journals? Do they treat them like preprints and grey literature, because the peer review process may not have been followed? Do they avoid them because the research might be poorly done, or not even ethical? Something in between? So we asked! With a survey and some focus groups, we tried to find out how we should handle these dubious publications.
Let's chat about the interim guidance, consider what our survey and focus groups have discovered, and explore a topic with a lot more questions than answers!
