Dear colleagues,
The library of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is seeking the services of a librarian for a 450-hour temporary position. The temporary librarian will support College registrants' medical information needs primarily by performing literature searches and may also provide virtual or in-person bibliographic instruction.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
* Supports College registrants' medical information needs by performing literature searches and teaching.
* Identifies suitable print and electronic resources to search, formulates search strategies and organizes search results, and follows-up with the requestor as needed.
* Prepares instructional sessions and creates/updates associated handouts.
* Provides bibliographic instruction, in-person and online
* Presents instructional sessions to small groups, one-on-one, or in conference setting, teaches using online instructional software
Required skills and qualifications include:
* graduate of a Master's program in library and information science/studies
* advanced skills in and an aptitude for bibliographic database searching. Experience with medical databases such as Medline is preferred.
* experience and competency performing literature searches and providing instructional sessions in a health-related field preferred.
* skillful instructor to adult learners in 1-on-1, group, and online environments
* ability to work both independently and as a team member
The term of the position is 450 hours between August 3, 2021 and January 31, 2022, approximately 17 hours per week. A mutually acceptable weekly schedule will be arranged. All or some of the worked hours will be done remotely using a College-provided laptop and VPN.
