Subject: Predatory journals

Hi everyone,

I hope you're enjoying the start to this week, and that you and yours are keeping safe.

Please see request below from a colleague, Kelly Cobey, in Canada working in the area of predatory journals. Please feel free to share this widely.

------------------------------------------------------

Hi all,

I am an Investigator at the Ottawa Hospital in Canada, where I work in the
Centre for Journalology (http://www.ohri.ca/journalology/). Working with an
international team of colleagues, our group recently developed a consensus
definition of what a predatory journal is. You can read more about this
definition, and how we developed it here:
https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-019-03759-y

To establish this consensus definition we hosted a summit meeting on predatory
journals. Part of this meeting involved creating a roadmap of actions to
address predatory journals. We agreed we needed a "one stop shop" website of
resources on predatory journals. The team is now active in creating this
resource.

Among the resources we hope to curate is a list of all policies, or guideline
statements, related to predatory journals/publishers. We are not currently
looking for educational resources about predatory journals, just policy style
documents. This example from the NIH fits what we are looking for:
https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-18-011.html

We are systematically searching for funder policies; however, we suspect that
many institution/universities policies may not be openly available.

I am writing to request that if you are aware of any university, research
institution, or funder policies or statements regarding predatory journals
that you please share these with me (kcobey at ohri.ca). Note that documents need
not be in English only.

Many thanks,
Kelly Cobey
